Hair Loss Treatment & Remedies

by Anthony J Smith

There may be many reasons that you have suffered hair loss. Chemotherapy, thyroid issues, and genetics are all leading contenders when it comes to hair loss. A change in diet can do it; when it comes to hair loss, vegetarians can be quite affected, especially if they are just starting.

What all these causes boil down to however, is a change in your body chemistry. Somewhere along the way, something has changed, whether it is a change in medication, the development of an illness or a medical condition. If you are concerned about hair loss, treatment can go a long way towards restoring both your locks and your self esteem. Women have it especially hard when it comes to hair loss. Hair loss in women can result in things like a loss of self-esteem due to a belief that she is no longer attractive. While nothing could be further from the truth, getting your hair back to its usual thick and shiny texture can go a long way towards making you feel better!

When it comes to remedies for hair loss, treatment varies wildly. As stated above, hair loss is usually a sign of something changing in your body. While it might be genetic and not signify something more serious, you may wish to speak to your doctor about it.

In terms of remedies, there are many folktales and stories that when examined, have very little basis in fact. Brushing your hair a hundred times before bed wont make it grow faster, for instance. There are many over-the-counter remedies that are sold in drug stores or online, but most experts are wary of trusting such things. Because there are such a wide variety of causes for hair loss, treatments need to be just as varied.

If you are looking for remedies, the best way to find one that works for you is to find out what has changed in your life. Sometimes the answer is simple. For instance, if you have recently given birth, there is a good change that your body has been depleted of the vitamins it needs for good hair production. Reintroducing vitamin B12 to your life in the form of supplements can go a long way towards helping you regain hair that has been lost. If you are male, these supplements may also help if you believe that your hair loss is due to a vitamin deficiency. Another common cause of sudden hair loss is related to scalp issues. Once you have made your scalp healthier, there is a good chance that your hair issues will be resolved as well.

When you are working on hair loss issues, remember that what works for someone else may not work for you; you may have to do a bit of searching to find an answer that you are comfortable with!

Top Hair Care Tips and Hair Loss Remedies

The number one problem affecting long hair is breakage, usually seen as shorter, fly-away strands, or split ends. From the moment you wake up to the time you go to sleep and even as you sleep, there are many factors that can lead to hair breakage. An ideal woman is often pictured to be a person with a slender figure with long hair. Hair has always been important for every woman because it somehow reflects their personality. Having long shiny hair can seduce a man, it can land a woman in a shampoo commercial, or get compliments from others. It can reflect a womans health and gives an impression that she is healthy, and that she is taking good care of herself. Of course, not all women would want long hair. It depends on their character, the weather, their lifestyle, and so on.

Hair has its own life cycle, usually from two to six years of hair growth. Each hair grows at least one centimeter per month. Ninety percent of the hair on the scalp is growing at any given time, while the remaining ten is at its resting phase. Specifically for women with long hair, it is considered normal for them to shed some hair as part of the cycle. Not to worry, since it is normally replaced as it grows back in the same follicle on ones head. Most people lose about fifty to a hundred of head hair strands a day. If one is losing more than those mentioned, a particular health condition can be seen, which would be hair loss.

Also called alopecia, it is basically the excessive hair loss of one person. This specific health condition may arise due to several causes. From three or four months after an illness or a major surgery, the patient may suffer from hair loss. This is usually temporary and is related to the stress of their particular illness. Another cause could arise from hormonal problems, primarily from imbalanced male and female hormones (androgens and estrogens). Pregnancy can also cause hair loss, usually three months after the woman conceived her baby. This is also related to the womans hormones, because during pregnancy, high levels of female hormones cause the body to keep hair that normally falls out. When such hormones get back to pre-pregnancy stages, hair falls out and the hair cycle starts normally once again. Certain medications can also cause hair loss, including blood thinners, gout medications, chemotherapy medications, birth control pills, and anti-depressants.

Hair treatments, such as hair coloring, bleaching, straightening, perms, and certain hairstyles (braids and cornrows) can also contribute to a persons hair loss. A condition called traction alopecia is present if a person ties or pulls her/his hair tightly that causes tension on the scalp. This particular condition may be permanent if the hairstyle is worn for a long period of time, long enough to damage the persons hair follicles.

Natural Hair Loss Remedies & Treatment

Here are some hair care tips that you can use to improve the health and look of your hair.

While choosing your styling products, make sure that the main component is not alcohol. Presence of too much of alcohol tends to make your hair dry.
Avoid putting your hair styling products directly on your scalp. Doing so will clog the pores on your head.

Before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water in the swimming pool. When swimming, remember to wear a cap to protect your hair from chlorinated water. In case you are not wearing a cap make sure that you shampoo and condition your hair properly after your swimming is over.

Hot air can be damaging to your hair. So avoid or minimize the use of hair dryers and hot curlers as much as possible. If you are at all using a hair dryer make sure you use the cool mode of the hair dryer.

Avoid using the blow dryer at one spot for more than a few seconds. Instead, keep it moving and most importantly you keep it at a good distance away from your hair.

To speed up the drying process, blot your hair dry with a towel instead of rubbing it to dry it. Leave the remaining moisture in your hair and let it dry naturally rather than drying it with a blow dryer.

If you notice a difficult knot in your hair, use your fingers to detangle it instead of combing it, which can result in breakage of hair.

Hair tends to be most fragile when it is wet. Avoid brushing or combing when its wet, as doing so can cause breakage of hair. Wait until your hair is almost dry before you attempt brushing it.

Use wide toothed and smooth tipped brushes or combs. Sharp and smaller toothed combs can cause damage to your hair.

Keep your brushes and combs clean by washing them every week using soap or shampoo.

Make sure you comb your hair with wide toothed comb or use your fingers to remove any tangles before you start brushing it.

Begin by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out and work your way up to the root of your hair.

Remember to always brush or comb your hair with a down ward stroke.
Avoid using plastic brushes or combs, which create static electricity, thus resulting in causing damage to your hair.

A healthy lifestyle will mean healthier body and mind including healthy hair for you too. Diet and Hair loss are closely associated, and hence you must pay attention to your diet for a healthy hair. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and scarcity of nutrition are can prevent your hair from remaining healthy. Get the required amount of sleep.

Learn your hair type, whether it is dry or oily and purchase shampoos & conditioners that are best suited for your hair type. Trial and error and extensive research is the best way to find out which particular hair product is ideal for your hair.

Shower with warm or cool water. Hot water can dry and irritate your scalp, resulting in irritation at times even.

article 4 Title: Natural Hair Loss Remedies & Treatment We all lose hair on a regular basis, but unfortunately rapid hair loss accompanied by non-growth of new hair coming in to replace it results in thinning hair and gradually lead to baldness.

Although a variety of commercial products are available in stores, yet all may not prove as a solution to your problem. Scalp cleanliness plays one integral role in preventing hair loss. If you have dandruff, you need to get rid of it immediately. Dandruff can be a prime cause of hair loss when it combines with dirt, shampoo chemicals, excess sebum follicle oil.

With time these chemicals can create a film on your scalp that hardens and start to plug up your hair follicles. Once plugged, your follicles cannot support hair growth.

Here are a few hair loss remedies that can help you maintain what you now have and save losing your hair.
* Getting proper nutrition is essential for healthy hair.

* Water, protein, biotin, vitamins A, B6, B12, C, copper, iron, omega 3 fatty acids, zinc, calcium, folic acid, and magnesium all contribute to a healthy scalp and hair.

* Massaging your scalp with the help of your fingertips enhances the scalp blood circulation, which contributes to your hair growth.

* Prolonged exposure to sun, wind and heat can result in hair loss, therefore avoid doing so. If it is really required, make sure you have protected your hair with a scarf or hat.

* Excessive use of hair dryers, hot showers, and curling irons on your hair can also cause hair loss, thus try avoiding them as much as possible.

* Stress is a major reason why you can experience hair loss. Therefore, start reducing the extra stress at once by taking some time out of your daily schedule to relax. Also get enough sleep. You can also start supplementing your diet with a good hair loss nutritional supplement.

* Hair coloring damages your hair and therefore you must try to color it less frequently.

The hair loss treatments suggested here cannot provide perfect cures for all hair loss conditions, but have proved helpful under many conditions. You can thus, try them as the potential solutions to hair loss.
